How does chiropractic help?

Chiropractic protects the integrity of the nervous system and protects the body’s natural healing ability. If your nervous system is functioning properly then all cells, organs, and tissues of your body will function at their max potential as well. The human body is designed to resist and fight disease and illness. The chiropractic lifestyle is about preventing bad things before they happen to your body. Chiropractic exams find and eliminate mis-alignments and subluxations.

Does insurance cover chiropractic?

Every insurance company and policy is different. Call your insurance company to verify your benefits or bring in your insurance card and we will verify your chiropractic benefits for you.

How safe is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is recognized as the safest drug-free, non-invasive form of alternative care. All research and studies are evidence that chiropractic adjustments hold an extremely small risk. This is because chiropractic works using the body’s natural healing process and doesn’t interfere by using drugs or surgery. The proof lays in the difference a medical doctor pays in malpractice insurance in comparison to a chiropractor.

Is chiropractic safe while I am pregnant?

Yes! You are now not only caring for yourself but the life of your child. Pregnancy puts a lot of stress on a woman’s body creating nausea, vomiting, back pain, hip pain, etc. Getting adjusted throughout pregnancy helps alleviate all these symptoms but the benefits don’t stop there. Getting regular chiropractic care during pregnancy has been shown to reduce labor time by up to 50%. There is also decreased likelihood for the need of drugs during delivery.

Should I get my children adjusted?

If you consider how a child grows in a womb and the birthing process, it is a very physically traumatic experience. In Germany, there was a medical study that found that because of all this physical stress, 82% of all children are born with subluxations in their neck. Later, another exam was performed on the same children and it was discovered that 96% of all health conditions in the children were eliminated after the children received chiropractic adjustments. It has been learned that if given the opportunity, most parents will choose to have their children examined for subluxations. Studies have also found that many health problems that develop in adulthood have the potential to be avoided with early chiropractic care.

So what is an adjustment?

It can be defined as a precise low force thrust in an exact direction to remove a subluxation or restore movement and nervous function. Chiropractic is the product of hundreds of years of careful research and is a safe, natural procedure.

How much schooling and training does a chiropractor have?

Believe it or not, but it is likely that your chiropractor has more education than your family physician. There are many similarities to the medical and chiropractic curriculum, but chiropractors are able to focus more on anatomy, physiology, diagnosis, and radiology because they do not prescribe medications or perform surgeries. After receiving a bachelor’s degree and graduate from grad school as a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.), chiropractors must pass four national board examinations in order to be required to practice. After passing national boards, chiropractors have to apply for a license in the state they practice and often have to take a state board exam. After completing this rigorous process, chiropractors are required to have yearly continuing education in order to keep their license.

Can I get adjusted if I have had back surgery?

Absolutely. It is a sad fact that back surgery only has a 15% success rate and only 53% of spinal fusions are considered successful. Most also have to return for more surgery because the symptoms return within the first 5 years post surgery. Chiropractic can help prevent one back surgery but has the potential to prevent future surgeries.

When will I start to get better?

It is a good rule of thumb that the longer the problem has been there, the longer it is going to take to recover. There are also many other variables to consider such as age, medical history, pre-existing conditions, etc. Children do heal quicker so it is always good to start care as early as possible. Please keep in mind that lifestyle plays a large role in how quickly your body heals.

Can Chiropractic care help with neck pain?

Chiropractic care has been shown to be effective at helping both acute neck pain and chronic neck pain. Acute neck pain may be felt as a sharp pain in the neck, and you may not be able to turn your head. Chronic neck pain can also arise from poor posture and sedentary work, such as sitting at a desk working on a computer. This type of pain is often described as a dull achy discomfort which is often accompanied with stiffness. In both situations, specific vertebrae in the neck and upper back may be problematic resulting in neck pain. Chiropractic adjustments are aimed to help keep the joints working properly, reduce stiffness, reduce pain, reduce muscle tension and increase function.

Most patients don’t want to just mask the pain with just medication, unfortunately that is all that most doctors offer. At Elite Chiropractic & Wellness Center we treat neck pain with advanced techniques that focus on repairing function to your nervous and musculoskeletal system. This is the best way to reduce pain and return to normal function.

Can Chiropractic help out with lower back pain?

Many things can cause lower back pain ranging from: sports or work injuries, sleeping on a poor quality mattress, household chores or something as simple as picking up your baby or child 10 times a day can cause lower back pain. Low back pain can occur if your job involves lifting and carrying heavy objects, or if you spend a lot of time sitting or standing in one position or bending over. It can be caused by a fall or exercise. Whatever the cause is, lower back pain is usually caused when a vertebrae or spinal segment is out of its normal position and puts stress on one’s nervous system. Additionally the muscles or ligaments in the lower back can become weak, the spine loses its stability, resulting in pain. Because nerves reach all parts of the body from the spinal cord, back problems can lead to pain or weakness in almost any part of the body.

Chiropractors are experts in lower back pain and can pinpoint your problem and get you back to a healthy and pain-free state.

What is sciatica and can chiropractic care help alleviate some of the symptoms?

Sciatica is generally caused by nerve compression in the low back. Sciatic nerve compression may result in sensory loss, loss of bowel and bladder function, and loss of strength. Sciatica typically occurs when a vertebrae or soft tissue is impinging on the sciatic nerve due to repetitive stress, poor ergonomics or even due to a trauma. The purpose of chiropractic treatment is to restore the body’s potential to heal itself. It is based on the scientific principle that restricted spinal movement leads to pain, reduced function and performance. Chiropractic care is non-invasive and drug free. The type of chiropractic therapy depends on the cause of the patient’s sciatica.

Don’t just put a band aid over sciatic pain by relying on medication. Correct the cause of sciatica by getting an evaluation and address the underlying cause. Discover and see if chiropractic care can benefit you.

Should my children have their spine checked?

Absolutely. Chiropractic patients range in years from birth to old age. Regardless of age, the vertebrae can become misaligned. For example, the birth process may cause trauma to the neck and spine. Left uncorrected, the vertebral subluxation may disturb the delicate spinal cord and nerves, which control the youngster’s muscles and organs. In some cases, an uncorrected subluxation may lead to a deformity of the spinal column. An early chiropractic checkup may detect many spinal problems while they are still easily correctable.

Is Chiropractic safe?

Yes! Chiropractors care for their patients using safe, gentle and scientifically validated techniques. We aim to educate all our patients to inform them how and why Chiropractic is safe and appropriate for people of all ages, especially babies and children.
